Artist Kodankandath had the honor of painting a live portrait (in person) of Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in the year 2005. Even being the President of India, Dr. Kalam remained calm, composed and patient in front of the Artist , as Kodankandath tried to capture him on a canvas. Every conversation we shared, Dr. Kalam would always try to match Artist thoughts about art with his thoughts about science, humble through and through.
The portrait had been painted for Readers Digest India to mark the 50th edition of Readers Digest, printed magazine, alongside the words & signature of the former Indian President (2002 -2007).
Artist first met the late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in New Delhi, in the year 2004, where he had inaugurated the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, India.
