Music comes alive on painting canvas:  This painting portrays 7 notes of the musical scale in Indian classical music Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha,and Ni. The painting was selected by the Reader’s Digest as its cover for the May 2001 issue. 

Artist Francis Antony Kodankandath had already been studying both Carnatic and Hindustani classical music, along with sitar which additionally helped him in this painting series. The artist had primarily painted this to visually depict the notes of the music for his friend who was born deaf in both ears, to experience the music with the help of colours. Kodankandath also depicted Carnatic and Hindustani musical scales in this world famous painting series.
