Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, often known simply as Amma, is an Indian Hindu spiritual leader, guru and humanitarian. The Mata Amritanandamayi Math, an international charitable organization, organized a massive celebration to which the artist was invited along with 53 other international artists. All the artists were requested to paint live during the event, about the Amma’s life and her growth to the person that she is today. The painting was highly appreciated and awarded a gold medal.

The artist was very much moved by the journey of Amma from the daughter of a fisherman to the well-respected personality she has become. It was said that Amma had walked 7km every day, twice a day to the sister’s covenant and being the child of a fisherman, swimming was one of her skills as well. Amma gives full credit to these two activities for her current well being. At the young age of 11, Lord Shiva had already been a major influence in her life. Moved by the information he had read from the book, the artist created an intricate painting portraying a young Amma sitting and leaning against a bamboo cluster, stitching a cloth that had the Indian Map on it, surrounded by all the nations she has helped with her actions, everything enclosed within the powerful ocean. It tries to depict how she has been trying to stitch up the wounds between countries with her kindness. The painting also showcases the Chandrakala  ( moon beams)  from which Amma draws energy from, through her needle,  along with symbols of  snakes, trident, Damru, to represent Lord Shiva, her mentor.
