Artist Kodankandath had the honor of painting a live portrait (in person) of Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in the year 2005.
Even being the President of India, Dr. Kalam remained calm, composed and patient in front of the Artist , as Kodankandath tried to capture him on a canvas. Every conversation we shared, Dr. Kalam would always try to match Artist thoughts about art with his thoughts about science, humble through and through.
Artist first met the late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in New Delhi, in the year 2004, where he had inaugurated the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, India.

India Today Group selected Artist Kodankandath to paint the portrait of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the President of India, for their special 50th Anniversary issue of Reader's Digest Magazine, Dec. 2005. Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, was an Indian aerospace scientist, who served as 11th Indian President from 2002 to 2007.
